This is what we is called a “cheater” cartoon where animation departments like Fleischer’s, Warner Bros. Loony Toons and Merry Melodies, MGM’s Hannah and Barbera and yes, Disney animators would use short bits and pieces of already released cartoons and use them t throughout the film to help tell the story line with only a very minimal amount of the the cartoon being new animation. When I was growing up watching all of these “cheaters” I comically had my own take on why this was done such as 1. The Accounting Dept. looked at the books that year and saw a way to balance the numbers a little better by cutting down on production costs. 2 The wives rebelled against the animator’s boss’s for that “vacation” they’d been promised for years…or… 3. Sign on the Animation Dept. reads: Gone Fishin’. chuck darland This short did not contain a version of Popeye’s famous spinach-eating sequence. This cartoon resumes the use of a redesigned “shipboard” series title card. This special title card was used through “Popeye Presents Eugene, the Jeep.” 1940 Fleischer Studios Distributed by: Paramount Studios Cartoon Characters: Popeye, Olive Oyl, Swee’pea, Movie Director, Bluto (in clip only).
